Before production, change it free within 24 hours of ordering.
\n
\n
\n
Why we ask you to measure a shirt you own
\n
Shift Pride prints each design to order on blanks from different garment makers, and sizing is not standardised across the clothing industry. One maker’s Large can be an inch wider than another’s. Body measurements alone also do not tell you how loose you like a shirt to be: a nurse who wears a tee under a scrub top, a welder who layers a hoodie over a work shirt and a teacher who wants a relaxed fit for a field trip will all choose differently with the same body.
\n
That is why the most reliable way to pick a size is to compare a garment you already love with the measurements of the item you want to buy. The method below takes about two minutes and needs only a tape measure or a ruler.
\n
How to measure a shirt you already own
\n
\n
Lay it flat. Put the shirt or hoodie face up on a table or bed and smooth out wrinkles without stretching it.
\n
Chest width. Measure straight across the front from one side seam to the other, about 1 inch (2.5 cm) below the armpits. This is the half-chest or “chest width” measurement most size charts use. Do not double it unless the chart says “chest circumference”.
\n
Body length. Measure from the highest point of the shoulder, next to the collar, straight down to the bottom hem.
\n
Sleeve length. For tees, measure from the shoulder seam to the end of the sleeve. For long sleeves and hoodies, measure from the centre back of the collar, across the shoulder and down to the cuff, if the product’s chart uses that method.
\n
Write it down in the same units the product page uses, inches or centimetres.
\n
\n
Then open the product page you are interested in and compare your numbers with the measurements listed for that item. Choose the size whose chest width is closest to your favourite shirt. If length matters to you, for example because you are tall or prefer a shirt that covers a tool belt, check length as well.
\n
If you do not have a shirt to measure
\n
You can measure your body instead. Stand relaxed and wrap a soft tape measure around the fullest part of your chest, under the arms, keeping the tape level and snug but not tight. That is your chest circumference. Garments need room to move, so a comfortable tee is usually several inches larger around than your body. Compare your chest with the product’s body-measurement chart where one is provided, or write to us with your measurement and the product you like, and we will suggest a size.
\n
Fit by style
\n
\n
How each style tends to fit
\n
\n
\n
Style
\n
Typical fit
\n
Sizing tip
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
Unisex T-Shirt
\n
Straight body, relaxed through the chest and waist
\n
Order your usual men’s size. If a product page states a fabric that is prone to shrinking, the larger size is the safer choice.
\n
Buying a gift? Sweatshirts and hoodies are forgiving; mugs need no size at all. If a size you need is missing, write to us; we may be able to tell you whether it can be added.
\n
Common sizing questions
\n
I usually wear a women’s Medium. Which unisex size should I order?
\n
Many people who wear a women’s Medium find a unisex Small fits similarly, while others prefer the looser look of a unisex Medium. Measure a tee you like and compare it with the product’s chest width to be sure.
\n
Do hoodies run big?
\n
Hoodies and sweatshirts are cut with more room than tees so they can be layered. If you want a closer fit, choose the size that matches your favourite sweatshirt’s chest width rather than going up.
\n
Will my shirt shrink?
\n
Most cotton and cotton-blend garments can shrink slightly, mostly in length, when dried on high heat. Washing cold and drying low, or hanging to dry, keeps shrinkage small. Any fabric details for a specific item are listed on its product page.
\n
I am tall. What should I look at?
\n
Check body length and, for long sleeves and hoodies, sleeve length. A size up gives extra length but also extra width, so compare both numbers with a shirt you own.
\n
Are your sizes the same as the shirts I get from work?
\n
Not necessarily. Work-issued shirts come from many different makers. Measure rather than relying on the label.
\n
Sizes for crews and groups
\n
When you are ordering for a unit, a staff room or a job crew, collect sizes before you order. A simple shared list with each person’s name and size works well. Ask each person to check their size against a shirt they already own using the method above, rather than guessing. Sizes can be mixed freely in a single order, and extended sizes up to 5XL are available on many styles. If one or two sizes turn out wrong, each item can be exchanged individually within 60 days of delivery.
\n
Sizing for gifts
\n
Buying for someone else is the hardest sizing job. A few tricks help. Check the label of a shirt they wear often, perhaps on laundry day, and note the brand and size. Ask a partner, roommate or co-worker who knows their usual size. If you can borrow a favourite shirt for a few minutes, measure it with the method above. And if you really cannot find out, choose a hoodie or sweatshirt in their usual size, where a little extra room looks intentional, or a mug, where size does not matter at all. Whatever you choose, the recipient can exchange within 60 days of delivery.
\n
Sizing for layering at work
\n
Many customers wear Shift Pride pieces over or under other layers: a long sleeve under a vest, a hoodie over a tee on a cold morning drive, a tee under a jacket. When you plan to layer something over the top, keep the inner layer close-fitting so it does not bunch. When you plan to wear something over other clothes, measure the outer garment you usually wear in that situation, not your thinnest tee, and compare that with the product page.
\n
Extended sizes
\n
Working people come in every size, and a lot of them are tired of hearing that a shop “doesn’t carry” theirs. Because we print to order, a 4XL or 5XL is no harder for us to make than a Medium, and on many designs we offer sizes up to 5XL. Extended sizes are cut larger in both width and length, so check the body length on the product page if you prefer a shorter fit. If a design you love is not offered in your size, tell us; that request helps us choose which blanks to add.
\n
Care advice to keep the fit
\n
\n
Turn printed garments inside out before washing.
\n
Wash in cold water with similar colours.
\n
Tumble dry on low heat or hang to dry. High heat is the main cause of shrinking.
\n
Do not iron directly over the print; iron inside out on low if needed.
\n
Avoid bleach and fabric softener on printed areas.
\n
For mugs, follow the dishwasher and microwave guidance on the product page.
\n
\n
If the size is not right
\n
Before production starts, within 24 hours of ordering, you can change the size free of charge; see Cancel or Change an Order. After delivery, you have 60 days to exchange for another size. For size exchanges, you pay to send the original back and we pay to ship your new size to you. If the measurements of the item you received differ clearly from those listed on the product page, that is our mistake, and the exchange is completely free. Full details are in our Returns & Exchanges Policy, and refund timing is in the Refund Policy.
\n
A note on our garments
\n
Shift Pride products are casual apparel. They are not uniforms, scrubs, flame-resistant clothing or high-visibility safety wear, and they are not sized to meet any workplace standard.
